Diplomatic New Year Receptions: Switzerland and Hungary

It was busy week for Her Excellency Ambassador Mashingaidze between 16-19 January 2026 as she attended Diplomatic New Year Receptions in both Switzerland and Hungary.

Her Excellency attended the New Year greetings event hosted by the President of Switzeland in Bern, Switzerland . Diginitaries on the occassion included : –

-President of Switzerland,

-H.E Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs

-Head of Missions

-Charge d’Affaires a.i

-Members of Federal Council

-Senior officials FDFA

In his speech the President of Switzerland stressed the importance of diplomatic engagements in dealing with global challenges which include human crisis, climate change and economic instability.

On the sidelines, the Ambassador was able to meet Ambassador Phillip Stalder, Assistant State Secretary Sub Sahara Africa. The meeting discussed bilateral and trade relations between Zimbabwe and Switzerland.

From Switzerland the Ambassador proceeded to Hungary upon the invitation of the President of Hungary H. E. Dr. Tamás Sulyok and spouse Zsuzsanna Nagy for the New Year Diplomatic Reception which was attended by Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to Hungary.

The two receptions provided a valuable opportunity for Heads of Diplomatic Missions to reaffirm shared commitment to constructive dialogue and cooperation
